The Latinx Theatre Commons is headed to San Diego with the 2026 LTC Carnaval of New Latinx Musicals! Carnaval will take place August 28–30, 2026 and is produced in partnership with the University of California San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance, La Jolla Playhouse, and TuYo Theatre.

Carnaval is an exuberant celebration of Latinx music and storytelling that brings together Latinx theatremakers and theatre decision makers from across the nation to amplify, illuminate, and advance Latinx musical theatre.

Purpose:Carnaval serves as an intervention to combat the patterned absence of authentic representation by uplifting Latinx musical theatre writers, composers, lyricists, directors, music directors, and performers. The program also creates opportunities for dialogue around the current and future state of Latinx musical theatre.

While priority is given to Southern California artists for certain production roles due to budget, participation includes artists from across the United States whenever possible.
