Important Message
The Carnaval of New Latinx Musicals is a national gathering dedicated to celebrating and advancing Latinx musical theatre. It’s part showcase, part convening, part pachanga, and entirely a space built for the people who make this art form and the people who love it.
This year’s Carnaval is the first to focus specifically on musical theatre. It brings together writers, composers, lyricists, directors, music directors, and performers to amplify work that is too often absent from the stages that matter most.
August 28-30, 2026
San Diego, CA
Produced in partnership with: University of California San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance, La Jolla Playhouse, and TuYo Theatre
Showcases
Featured works by Latine musical theatre writers, composers, and lyricists, with an emphasis on Southern California talent.
Conversations
Rich dialogue about the state of Latinx/e music and musical theatre, where it’s been, where it’s going, and what the theatre community needs to do.
